Downtown
Frederick Street, Woodford Square, the Red House, the National Museum. Best in the morning when the market and downtown are moving. Empty and evocative on a Sunday.
Port of Spain is a small city, roughly forty city-blocks between the harbour and the Savannah. It rewards walking, and it rewards a slow eye. The Sanctuary sits five minutes on foot from the Savannah's eastern edge, and eight minutes by car from downtown.
The full Port of Spain guide is being prepared, covering downtown, Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, St James, and Newtown. A preview of the districts below.
Frederick Street, Woodford Square, the Red House, the National Museum. Best in the morning when the market and downtown are moving. Empty and evocative on a Sunday.
The Queen’s Park Savannah, its 3.7km perimeter loop, and the seven grand buildings on its western edge. The city’s green heart. Walkable from the front gate.
The main dining and evening strip. Roti shops, fine dining, cocktail bars, and lime spots. Comes alive after eight, and stays alive until two.
St James is Port of Spain’s "city that never sleeps" — Western Main Road, doubles at midnight, and a full slate of Indian food. Woodbrook next door is quieter and more residential.
Our long-form Savannah guide covers Queen's Park Savannah, the Magnificent Seven, and the 5.30am jogger's loop. Belmont and the overview page cover the rest.
